Who we are

National Safe Driving promote Fleet and Corporate Eco driving of Cars, People carriers, Minibuses and the safe transportation vulnerable wheelchair passengers through our certificated training courses. We are a Community Interest Company and give free advice on the health and safety requirements of the voluntary sector, schools, universities, youth groups, and special needs organisations.

Minibus Familiarisation Courses

Certificated Minibus courses, for both wheelchair and non wheelchair accessible Minibuses 

A thorough assessment of minibus driving skills and advice to improve driver competence. By the end of the course delegates should have demonstrated: Correct use of controls – steering wheel, clutch, gearbox, brakes, accelerator, horn.

The ‘System’ of advanced driving – mirrors will play an important part in this.· A good driving performance – moving off and stopping, road position, cornering, obeying speed limit, overtaking, signals, a good general ability – alertness, consideration of other road users, hazard perception, judgement of distances, etc

A good knowledge of the theory behind driving through the completion of a short multiple choice test on the Highway Code, basic maintenance checks and drivers’ responsibilities.

Wheelchair Accessible Minibus Courses

Wheelchair Passenger Lifts Use

Certificated Minibus courses, for both wheelchair and non wheelchair accessible Minibuses

  • Safe use of ramps, tail lifts, wheelchair and passenger restraint/tie-down equipment

  • Health and Safety at work in manual handling of passengers and transfer of passengers from wheelchair to seat.

  • Department of Transport codes of practice on safe carriage of passengers in wheelchairs.

  • Good passenger assistance procedures.

This course consists of a demonstration of correctly boarding/alighting passengers using a lift, ramp or winch and using wheelchair tie-down equipment/seat belt restraints. There will be the opportunity for delegates to familiarise themselves with the wheelchair/equipment (if required) before the formal practical assessment.

When delegates have successfully completed the MiDAS Driver and Accessible Training Modules, each driver is presented with a nationally recognised Driver & Accessible MiDAS Certificate

Wheelchair Handling and Safety Courses

On this Wheelchair Handling course you will learn the basic principles of back care and how to safely assist ambulant people and wheelchair users. Using manual handling techniques the course will teach you the basics of safety when moving and handling people in wheelchairs.

We offer on-site certified training delivered in the correct use of wheelchair tiedown occupant restraint safety systems, and the best practice operational use of passenger carrying lifts. A duty of care to all passengers during transit is their unequivocal right, as it is the right, of staff responsible for passenger safety, to be trained and certified in the correct use of wheelchair tiedown occupant restraint systems. Ecodriving Corporate Courses

How will Ecodriving benefit my organisation?

There is a wide variety of training available meaning you can choose a format that suits your needs. Courses vary in terms of their duration, their focus (some purely focus on ecodriving whilst others incorporate other aspects of safety)

Minibus Banksman Courses

Around a quarter af all collisions are whilst reversing. Our certificated reversing banksman courses for drivers and passenger assistants utilise official HSE banksman signals and fulfil employers duty of care towards their staff at a low cost so that larger numbers of staff can be trained in reversing safety proceedures.
